SCC had the much better start and pinned us back. But the longer the game lasted, the better we looked. While we did not create many chances upfront, we also did not give SCC any space. On about 30 minutes a ball was played straight through the middle, and pretty much everyone thought that the SCC striker was starting from an offside position. But the referee thought otherwise and SCC is up 1:0. Half-time talk was that we can clearly get something from this game. And it only took about three minutes for us to be even: Meckes played a nice ball into space, Kris K bamboozled his opponent on the baseline and scored from a very tight angle. Game on! The second half was much better, and we were in the ascendancy. Joe had to keep us in the game twice with brilliant saves, while at the other end we had the dominance, but did not really create too many chances. We played some really good football, but lacked the penetration in the last third.
Out of the blue, and against the run of play, we let an SCC midfielder walk up the field and dispatch a shot from a good 25 meters out. It flew into the back of the net, and GSOS looked stunned. We were unable to put up real pressure and had to leave the pitch with heads high for a decent performance, but nothing to show for it.
Next up: the new team in the league, Chong Hwa FC, a team made up mostly of Chinese expats.
Man of the Match: Meckes
